What does GoMedigap do, and what is Medicare Supplement insurance?
GoMedigap specializes in offering Medicare Supplement insurance as well as Dental, Vision, and Hearing (DVH) policies. We provide reliable custom quotes, and our services are completely free!
Medicare Supplement insurance, also known as Medigap, is health insurance that is sold by private companies that pays for health care costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as copayments, coinsurance, and deductibles. Because Medicare does not cover 100% of medical expenses, having Medicare supplement insurance protects patients from being exposed to potentially high medical bills. Medigap bridges the gap left by Medicare.
When can I sign up for Medicare Supplement Insurance?
You are eligible to sign up for Medicare supplement insurance during your Medigap Open Enrollment Period, which is a 6 month period that begins automatically when you enroll in Medicare Part B on the month you turn 65. During this time, you can buy any Medigap plan offered in your state, regardless of your health conditions. This means that you cannot be denied for any reason.
In addition, depending on the state you live in, you can apply for a Medigap plan up to 6 months prior to enrolling in Medicare Part B on your 65th birthday. Many people choose to sign up for a Medigap policy before they turn 65 so they can avoid a gap in coverage.
After your enrollment period ends, you have to medically qualify in order to obtain a Medigap plan, which may result in less options and more expensive plans. We encourage you to explore your options earlier rather than later to avoid any penalties or lapse in coverage.
