    1. Hi Ms. Thompson,

  1. I currently reside in Illinois, (zip code 62704), and turned 65 on 6/14/2017. We are preparing to move to Florida, (zip code 32162), with a target date of Oct,1, 2017. Do I need to choose a carrier that provides coverage to both states? Do I need to select coverage for Illinois, then contact the insurance carrier and switch coverage to Florida when the move is made? Also, I thought I needed to select coverage by the end of August but I just read somewhere that I had 6 months after my 65th birthday. Which is correct? Please advise.

    1. Mr. Wedekind,

Your Open Enrollment Period for a Medicare supplement is 6 months after the effective date of Part B.

Because Medicare and Medicare supplements are nationwide coverage, you will not have a problem once you move. Select a plan in the state you’re currently residing in and, once you are moved to Florida, simply call your insurance carrier and update your address. There will be no lapse in coverage, and you will keep your insurance regardless of where you move in the country.

If you’d like to compare Medicare supplement rates online from 30+ companies, please give us a call at 866-894-3258. One of our professional agents will be happy to help and answer any questions you may have. We look forward to speaking with you!
