  1. I HAVE MANHATTAN LIFE SUPPLEMENT INSURANCE. I AM A DIABETIC AND SENT TO MY HUMANA PRESCRIPTION PLAN FOR DIABETIC TEST STRIPS. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY ARE COVERED BY MY SUPPLEMENT PLAN. IS THIS TRUE, AND HOW DO I GO ABOUT GETTING THE TEST STRIPS. THANK YOU

    1. Hi there,

There tends to be quite a bit of confusion around this, as there are two ways to purchase your diabetic testing supplies.

If you purchase your testing supplies over the counter, your supplies will not be covered by Medicare.

In order to have your diabetic testing supplies covered by Medicare, you must have a prescription from you doctor. You must then take your prescription to the pharmacist and have it filled. This is the only way to ensure your supplies will be covered.

      The prescription should say:
      1. That you have been diagnosed with diabetes.
      2. How many test strips and lancets you need in a month.
      3. What kind of meter you need.
      4. Whether you use insulin or not.
      5. How often you should test your blood sugar.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding your diabetic testing supplies.
